While I have consulted with folks before on interior design, I’ve always found it to be challenging, since for me interiors are a very personal thing.

Creating a space that reflects a purpose and a personality (and a life) happens over time and in evolution. It’s not just a floor plan and a room sketch, with related furniture specs and material swatches.

The purpose and focus of a room, I find, changes over time as you live in it and use it, which is one of the reasons I’ve never been able to achieve a “finished room in a box.” Homes and rooms should feel like they grew up over time, rather than were installed.

I love how my choices and ideas evolve and morph, as art, furniture, and materials play off of each other. An unexpected addition of something small and relatively insignificant very frequently unlocks the missing link, and reshuffles and redirects the mix to a new accord that is in keeping with the design intention, but potentially quite different from the original plan. Eccentricity is a must, though colors and materials repeat. I think most people would be surprised that my process is this fluid, given the end appearance.

Inspirations: Travel, texture, quality of light, everyday livability.
